Duncan, Oklahoma: The parents of two of the boys accused of the random drive-by shooting murder of Australian baseballer Chris Lane believe their sons are innocent.

''I don't believe he was there because of the time frame,'' one of the boy's mothers told reporters outside the Stephens County Courthouse in Duncan, Oklahoma, on Monday.

Police allege the accused killers followed Mr Lane shot him in the back and sped off in a random drive-by. 

''I don't believe my son did it,'' the father of another boy said.The boys - aged 15, 16 and 17 - were scheduled to be brought to the courthouse on Monday afternoon (about 4.30am Tuesday AEST), but it was pushed back a day.

A spokesperson for District Attorney Jason Hicks said the charges were still being reviewed.

If convicted of first degree murder, the boys face a maximum sentence of life in prison.The boys can be tried as adults, but the spokesperson said because they are under the age of 18 they can't face a death sentence.

The parents did send their condolences to Mr Lane's family in Australia and his American girlfriend, Sarah Harper.

''My prayers go out to them,'' the father said.''I have lost several loved ones recently myself.''I feel sorry for the individuals and family.''

Mr Lane, 22, had been in the US on a baseball sports scholarship with East Central University (ECU) as the team's catcher.

He was going for a jog along a road in Duncan on Friday when he was shot in the back.

Witnesses saw him stumble across the road and then go down on his knees before struggling to a drainage area at the side of the road.Mr Lane's father, Peter, described his son's death as ''senseless''.

Police allege the accused killers followed Mr Lane, shot him in the back and sped off in a random drive-by, before heading to another house with plans to kill again.
